Dr Anderson is one of the early pioneers of implant dentistry in Sonoma County. After graduating as a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of California in San Francisco in 1963, he practiced general dentistry in the US Marine corps stationed in Hawaii then overseas in Viet Nam, Japan and Okinawa. Upon leaving the military service, he opened his general dental practice in Rohnert Park in 1966. In the middle 1970’s, he began his training in the area of dental implants. He placed his first implant in the early 1980’s after receiving training in many areas of the United States from practicing implantologists and dental schools.
His practice is a general practice and he works in all phases of general dentistry. He is experienced in periodontics, endodontics, surgery, cosmetic dentistry and full mouth reconstruction. However, he also enjoys doing the simple things in dentistry and helping people out. He is willing to listen to his clients and work out treatment plans that can prioritize good dental work over an extended time if needed. He has learned to be compassionate and respect his patient’s life needs more highly than just doing their dental work. He believes in building lasting relationships. Many times he can take an expensive treatment plan and find a much more affordable approach that will lead to fulfilling patient expectations. He has surrounded himself with well trained, confident and relational staff. We have fun. People need to trust and enjoy dentistry.
Over the years he has seen many changes in the field of dentistry, but none as exciting as the changes in dental implants. He has kept up to date by teaching other dentists how to work with and understand dental implants. Much of this has been through local Universities in San Francisco dental schools and various implant societies on a postgraduate level.
Dr Anderson believes it is strongly desirable to have the same doctor to place and restore dental implants. They are so sensitive and different from natural teeth, that it makes sense to have one person that is totally responsible for the entire process from start to finish. Because he has kept up to date and practiced all phases of general dentistry with a special interest in implant surgery, he is one of the few with total training and experience. He is comfortable doing bone grafting and traditional implants, but is also trained and experienced in using the less expensive, quicker and simpler mini implants.
